The Pedabayalu Coffee, grown in the Araku region in Visakhapatnam district, has been adjudged the best in the region for 2012 by the international jury at Melbourne, Australia, and bestowed the ‘Flavour of India Fine Cup Award'.
The Coffee Board of India has been organising the competition every year to promote production of fine quality coffees. It has been successful in showcasing the fine coffees from India in the international market.
The outstanding coffees from among the selected regions are chosen at the national level for the final cupping by the international jury comprising eminent Cup Tasters from different countries.
The Pedabayalu coffee has been adjudged as the best in the Araku Region under the Arabica general category.
According to Mr A. N. Gurumurthy, Andhra Pradesh Forest Development Corporation (APFDC) General Manager, although the Ananthagiri and Pedabayalu coffee samples had been sent for consideration of the jury, the Pedabayalu Coffee had been graded above the former.
Coffee is being grown in 4,000 hectares in Visakhapatnam district and 3,000 tribal families are working on the plantations.
