For the second successive time during the current series, a low-pressure area has been put under watch for intensification.

An India Meteorological Department update on Monday indicated that the ‘low’ in the north-west Bay of Bengal might intensify a round by Tuesday.

Surprises again

By beating forecasts for a second time in a row, the monsoon continues to surprise on the upside and shows what fine fettle it is currently in.

International forecasts maintain outlook for yet another ‘low’ to form over northwest Bay by around the month-end or very early into the next, which is August.

It would mean that the pretender may not allow much breathing time for the current ‘low’ to stay for a very long time over central India where it is headed for all practical purposes.

Heavy falls

But it cannot prevent it from raining in heavy to very heavy torrents over parts of east, east-central and west India during next couple of days.

Projections indicate that both the lows might hit a track straight towards the west over central India towards west Madhya Pradesh-Gujarat.

The bottomline is that the entire Mumbai-Konkan, west Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat needs to ready itself for sustained heavy to very heavy precipitation over the next four-five days.

On Monday, the Met Department said that the monsoon was ‘vigorous’ over coastal Andhra Pradesh.

Wet week ahead

It was ‘active’ over Uttarakhand, west Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Telangana, Konkan-Goa and south interior Karnataka.

As for Tuesday, it has warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall over Odisha, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, east Gujarat, Madhya Maharashtra and Konkan-Goa.

rainfall is forecast for east Rajasthan, entire Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, and coastal and south interior Karnataka.
