In its efforts to boost its warehouse infrastructure, the Central Arecanut and Cocoa Marketing and Processing Cooperative (Campco) Ltd will be setting up a godown at Kavu village in Puttur taluk of Dakshina Kannada district.

SR Satishchandra, Campco president, said that the 1.31 lakh sq ft godown will be built at a cost of ₹24.5 crore at Kavu. The foundation stone for the new facility was laid on Monday.

He told BusinessLine that the new facility is expected to be completed in 15 months. The cooperative did not have a master godown till now. It was dependent upon others, such as the APMC in Puttur.

The new facility will have provisions to store commodities such as arecanut, cocoa, rubber and black pepper.

On the selection of Kavu village (around 15 km from Puttur town), Satishchandra said that it is centrally located in the arecanut-growing regions of Puttur and Sullia taluks of Dakshina Kannada district. The proposed facility will be closer to Campco’s chocolate factory at Puttur.

The project is being set up on 12 acres ofl and owned by the cooperative in that village, he said.

Suresh Bhandary, MD of Campco, told BusinessLine that the Kavu facility will also have provisions to process black pepper.

The Kavu facility will have a storage capacity of around 10,000 tonnes, he said.
