Thanking the members and employees of the Union for this achievement, he said the lockdown has led to a decline of around 25 per cent in the consumption of milk in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts. Most of the hotels, canteens and educational institutions are not working due to lockdown and tourist arrivals are down. All these factors have contributed to the decline in the milk consumption in these two districts and impacting the finances of the union.
After meeting the demands of these two districts, the Milk Producers’ Union, with 720 dairy cooperative societies and 1.39 lakh members, is sending the remaining stock for the preparation of milk powder and other products.
Referring to the milk production in the State, he said Karnataka produces around 85 lakh litres of milk every day. The lockdown has affected the demand for milk at the state-level also
