Spot turmeric prices decreased at Erode markets as only medium quality turmeric arrived for sale. Though the traders are having upcountry orders, they are buying all the new turmeric and selected stock of old turmeric. On Wednesday, 3,500 bags including 2,000 bags of new turmeric arrived for sale and 60 per cent were sold. Regarding the price, the hybrid finger variety lost ₹950 a quintal due to inferior quality, but, the hybrid root turmeric was down ₹200 . Similarly, the local turmeric too lost ₹1,300 for finger variety and that of the root variety was down by ₹250 a quintal. At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association, Salem Hybrid finger variety fetched ₹7,129-8,689; root variety ₹5,700-7,289. The local finger variety was at ₹6,799-7,299; root variety at ₹5,799-6,727. Of the arrival of 2, 463 bags, 1,704 were sold.
