The prevailing easterly wave has tossed up an upper air cyclonic circulation over central parts of south Bay of Bengal early on Friday morning.

The other weather-maker system was the upper air cyclonic circulation over northeast India left behind by a previous western disturbance exiting the country.

This system that has been persisting over Assam and adjoining Arunachal Pradesh from overnight on Friday evening, an India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.

Satellite pictures mainly revealed the presence of convective (rain-bearing) clouds over parts of east-central and south Bay of Bengal and Andaman Sea.

Global models showed the upper cyclonic circulation over south Bay of Bengal steering a chunk of the clouding towards Sri Lanka and adjoining southeastern Tamil Nadu and Kerala.

Most of them, however, are repelled by the westerly flows from northwest India to blow north-northeast over the Bay of Bengal and away from mainland India.
