After a gap of 16 days, cardamom auctions have resumed in Kerala. The auction centre at the Spices Park in Puttady reported a good turnout of dealers, including several from Tamil Nadu, a press release from the Spices Board, said.
The auctioneers, South India Green Cardamom Company, put on offer 102 tonnes of cardamom on sale. Around 60 per cent was sold out of this by Wednesday afternoon. The demand was good with the average price ruling at Rs 542 a kg by noon against the average price of Rs 472.04 recorded at the auction in Bodi on December 5.
The Director (Marketing) of Spices Board, Mr P. M. Suresh Kumar, supervised the resumption process of cardamom auction in Puttady. There has been movement of the cardamom sold out in the last auctions from Kumily to Bodi. The next auction is slated to take place again in Puttady on Thursday
