Participation from active blenders lifted the prices of several tea varieties, especially good liquoring, at Kochi auction this week.

In sale no 43, demand for CTC grades in dust category was firm, and sometimes dearer. As the sale progressed, prices appreciated more especially for good liquoring. Plainer varieties sold around at last levels.

With good demand, the quantity on offer in CTC was 8,17,500 kg. Exporters confined to plainer varieties, while upcountry demand was subdued.

The quantity on offer in orthodox grades was 14,500 kg and exporters absorbed the bulk.

In Cochin CTC dust quotation, good varieties fetched ₹107-155, mediums quoted ₹96-126 and plain grades stood at ₹88-97.

In leaf category, select best Nilgiri brokens and whole leaf in orthodox grades was firm to dearer. Others were irregular and lower, witnessing some withdrawals. The quantity on offer was 198,000 kg.

There was good demand for CTC leaf with 97 per cent getting sold out of the total quantity of 68,000 kg on offer. Demand for good liquoring brokens was dearer, while fannings was irregular and lower. Exporters and upcountry buyers absorbed bulk of the offerings.

In dust varieties, Monica SFD quoted the best prices of ₹156, followed by Injipara SFD at ₹153. In leaf grades, Chamraj FOP-S (Green Tea) came to the top quoting ₹359 followed by P’s Woodlands Hyson Green Tea at ₹302.
