Active participation of blenders lifted prices of good liquoring tea varieties at Kochi auctions.

The market opened ₹2 to ₹3 lower, while good liquoring teas sold around last levels. However, a strong feature of the sale was that medium and bottom segments of the market appreciated with longer margins of ₹3 to ₹7 and sometimes more.

In sale no 41, the quantity on offer in dust CTC was 9,64,500 kg. A better enquiry was noticed from exporters and upcountry buyers, the auctioneers Forbes, Ewart & Figgis said.

In orthodox grades, the market for primary grades remained steady, while others were irregular and sometimes easier. The quantity on offer was 10,500 kg.

In Cochin CTC dust quotation, good varieties fetched ₹104-159, mediums quoted ₹81-118 and plain grades stood at ₹65-87.

In leaf category, the market for select best Nilgiri brokens and whole leaf in orthodox grades was steady to firm. The quantity on offer was 2,72,180 kg.

In CTC leaf, the market for brokens and Fannings was firm to dearer following quality. The quantity on offer was 43,215 kg. Exporters and upcountry buyers absorbed the quantity sold.

Puduthottam SFD/SRD came to the top in dust grades quoting ₹159 followed by Monica SFD quoting ₹157. In leaf, Chamraj OP quoted the best prices of ₹316 followed by Chamraj FOP-S (Green Tea) and P's Woodlands Hyson (Green Tea) at ₹300.
