The demand for the Salem mini hybrid turmeric increased at the markets in Erode on Friday. Traders purchased all the 900 bags that arrived for sale, besides buying good number of Salem Hybrid turmeric for their upcountry orders, said Krishnamurthy, a trader. Nearly 6,500 bags arrived for sale and more than 80 per cent were sold. Some 50 bags of Salem mini hybrid finger variety fetched ₹8,889 a quintal — which is ₹200 more than the previous sale price. The Salem hybrid finger variety went for ₹8,500 a quintal and root variety for ₹8,100. At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association, the finger variety traded at ₹5,619-8,889; the root variety at ₹5,222-8,094. Of the 4,573 bags offered, 3,139 were sold.
