The Coonoor-based Homedale Tea Factory, a small-scale tea factory, excelled at Sale No: 38 of the auctions of Coonoor Tea Trade Association with two of its CTC grades, auctioned by Global Tea Brokers, fetching the highest price beating even the orthodox teas from corporate sector.
Homedale Estate’s Broken Pekoe tea, auctioned by Global Tea Brokers, topped the entire auctions when PS Tea Industries bought it for₹276 a kg. Homedale Estate’s Broken Orange Pekoe small grade, auctioned by Global Tea Brokers, followed at ₹266. No tea, including orthodox variety, from any company could match these levels at this week’s auctions.
Another leaf grade of Homedale Estate, auctioned by Global Tea Brokers, fetched ₹238. In CTC Dust tea auction, Homedale Estate’s Pekoe Dust grade topped at ₹245. All others got less than ₹200/kg.
Among orthodox teas, Chamraj topped at ₹254 followed by Kairbetta at ₹207 a kg. In all, about 90 per cent of the offer was sold with the average price remaining flat at ₹95.98 a kg.
