Spot turmeric prices increased by ₹200 a quintal at Erode markets on Monday due to local demand.
“ Turmeric growers brought 5,000 bags of But new turmeric alone and 3,120 bags were sold for a higher price,”said RKV Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association.
He further said the unpolished Salem turmeric is available at ₹8,800-9,000 a quintal and the polished ones at ₹9,600. The fine variety Salem turmeric was sold at ₹10,000 but only five or six bags arrived for sale. New turmeric: At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association sales yard, the finger variety old turmeric fetched ₹5,636-8,518; the root variety ₹5,496-7,599.
Salem turmeric: The finger variety ruled at ₹6,331-9,616 and the root variety ₹6,199-7,710. Of the total arrival of 1,321 bags, 540 were sold.
At the Regulated Market Committee, the finger turmeric traded at ₹7,569-8,677; the root variety ₹6,639-7,799. Of the 314 bags on offer, 294 were traded.
At the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹7,299-8,559 and the root variety ₹6,865-7,699. All the 1,022 bags were sold.
At the Gobichettipalayam Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger turmeric fetched ₹7,495-8,599; the root turmeric ₹6,795-7,615. All the 230 bags found takers.
