The monsoon is once again raring to go, after sending out the latest low-pressure area from North-West Bay of Bengal (off Bengal coast) and the India Met Department (IMD) is promptly putting it under watch for intensification.

Rough to very rough sea conditions may prevail over West-Central and South-West Arabian Sea as well as the coasts of Maharashtra, Gujarat, Bengal and Odisha. Fishermen are advised not to venture into these areas.

May prolong stay

The ‘low’ is seen dropping anchor off the Bengal for a few days before it crosses the coast and travels into the hinterland. It may use this interregnum to receive feed from a couple of storms raging in the South China Sea/North-West Pacific.

The fresh surge of monsoon westerlies from the Arabian Sea will scale up rainfall activity over Kerala and Karnataka as well as the ghats of Tamil Nadu during the next two days, the IMD has warned.

The westerlies fanning into the ghats in Central and adjoining South Kerala has already triggered heavy rainfall on Monday sending River Pampa into spate, forcing authorities to stop incoming pilgrims into the hill-shrine at Sabarimala.

Convergence rain

Outlook for the next three days said that fairly widespread rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy falls is likely over Western Himalayan region and parts of East India, while being heavy over Uttar Pradesh.

Isolated extremely heavy falls are likely over Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand until Tuesday and over Odisha on Tuesday. Along with this, South Konkan and Goa too are set to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall.

Meanwhile, the 24 hours ending Monday morning saw heavy to very heavy rainfall and at times extremely heavy falls being reported from Himachal Pradesh and Coastal Karnataka.
