Spot turmeric prices increased at Erode markets on Wednesday on the back of upcountry demand. The new turmeric prices were up ₹1,000 a quintal. “The traders are buying almost all the arriving new turmeric for their demand at an increased price. The (new) finger turmeric gained ₹1,100 a quintal and selling at ₹8,500 and the root variety is at ₹7,400,” said RKV Ravishankar, a trader. At the Regulated Marketing Committee, finger variety fetched ₹6,811-8,259 a quintal and root variety ₹6,255-7,129. Of the arrival of 468 bags, 451 were traded.
