Increased supplies of pepper slowed down domestic demand on Thursday, keeping prices steady at the terminal market here.
Availability of imported pepper from Sri Lanka and Vietnam, exchange-released pepper and supply from Karnataka in the upcountry markets have narrowed domestic demand, trade sources told BusinessLine.
On the terminal market, five tonnes of Karntataka pepper and five tonnes of High Range pepper were traded at ₹680 and ₹690 a kg, respectively. Wayanad pepper sellers offered ₹685 but buyers were not interested.
Spot prices remained unchanged at ₹68,100 (ungarbled) and ₹71,100 (garbled) a quintal.
October, November and December contracts on the IPSTA also stayed unchanged at ₹72,000, ₹66,000 and ₹63,000 a quintal.
Export prices were at $11,000 a tonne c&f Europe and $11,250 for the US. Prices in other origins were reportedly steady.
