After six day closure for the Deepavali festival, the turmeric markets were reopened on Friday.
The arrival to the markets was decreased. Only 3,500 bags arrived for sale. The traders quoted good price for the hybrid turmeric and purchased 1,980 bags . 200 bags of Salem Hybrid turmeric arrived which fetched ₹9,800 a quintal, but the local hybrid decreased and sold at ₹9,400.
The root variety decreased by ₹150 a quintal. At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association sales yard, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹6350-9,456 a quintal; the root variety at ₹5,609-8,711.
Of the arrival of 854 bags, 430 were sold.
