New turmeric crop garnered increased enquiries at Erode markets. “We are getting only limited quantity of turmeric in Erode. Of the total arrival of 3,100 bags, the new turmeric accounted for 2,100 bags. The arrivals here are just one-tenth of the arrival of the spice recorded in Nizamabad and Warangal,” said Palanisamy, a trader.
After two or three months, the Salem variety old turmeric arrived for sale and fetched increased price. More than 500 bags were offered. The good quality Salem finger variety went for ₹9,616 a quintal and some traders purchased it for their export orders. The price of the local finger variety was up ₹700 and that of root variety by ₹300.
