Supply squeeze of indigenous pepper has pushed up spot pepper prices further on Monday. Meanwhile, more and more consignments of Sri Lankan pepper have arrived via Chennai, Tuticorin ports and Trichy ICD, market sources told Business Line . They said 5 to 7 containers are available in Erattupetta in Kerala's Kottayam district.
On the terminal market seven tonnes were traded at ₹405 - ₹415 a kg.
Spot prices increased by ₹300 a quintal to close at ₹41,000 (ungarbled) and ₹43,000 (garbled) a quintal.
Indian export prices are at $7,025 a tonne c&f for Europe and $7,275 a tonne c&f for the US.
