Prices of several tea varieties declined at Kochi auctions, despite improved arrivals.

The market for CTC dust opened by ₹7 to ₹12 lower following quality and witnessed some withdrawals as the sale progressed. The loss in price was more and towards close, significant withdrawals noticed due to lack of bid. Leading blenders were very selective and covered only a small quantity, while exporters bought only negligible portion, the auctioneers Forbes, Ewart & Figgis said.

The quantity on offer in sale no 18 was 12,31,652 kg.

In orthodox grades, the market for primary grades was steady and others were lower. The quantity on offer was 5060 kg. A small quantity was absorbed by exporters.

In Cochin CTC dust quotation, good varieties fetched ₹111-145, mediums quoted ₹90-130 and plain grades stood at ₹76-92.

In the leaf category, the market for Nilgiri brokens and whole leaf in orthodox grades was lower by ₹5 to ₹10. The quantity on offer was 227,410 kg.

There was only a fair demand for CTC grades and the market was lower by ₹5 to ₹ 10and sometimes more following quality.

Monica SFD quoted the best prices in dust category at ₹148 followed by Carady Goody SFD at ₹142. In leaf, Chamraj FOP-S (Green Tea) came to the top quoting ₹406 followed by Chamraj FOP/OP at ₹297.
