A subdued demand from blenders impacted tea prices at Kochi auctions this week with several varieties seeing drop in rates.

The market for good liquoring teas in CTC dust was irregular and lower by ₹2-3 and sometimes more, following quality. Medium and plainer blacker teas remained steady, while others were irregular and lower, especially browner varieties. The quantity on offer in sale no 42 in CTC grades was 11,62,753.60 kg. The average price realised was ₹124.30 almost same as in the previous week.

There was fair support from upcountry buyers, while improved export enquiry was noticed for medium and plainer varieties.

The quantity on offer in orthodox grades was 9.500 kg and the market for primary grades was firm to dearer. Exporters continued to be the major stakeholder.

In Cochin CTC dust quotation, good varieties fetched ₹119-182, mediums quoted ₹98-135 and plain grades stood at ₹88-102.

In the leaf category, the market for Nilgiri brokens and Fannings in orthodox grades barely remained steady and tended to ease following quality. The quantity on offer was 3,02,798 kg.

In CTC leaf, the market for select best CTC brokens and Fannings remained steady. Others were lower with some withdrawals. Medium and plainer varieties tended to ease by ₹2-4 and sometimes more. The average price realised was ₹136.03 compared to the previous week’s ₹142.31.

Monica SFD quoted the best prices of ₹182 in dust varieties. In leaf, Chamraj FOP-Sup (Green Tea) topped, quoting ₹301.
