Absence of normal Diwali buying this year has kept the pepper market without buoyancy and that in turn left the prices unchanged. At the same time, there are industry buyers for 565-570 GL High Range bulk density pepper at ₹720 a kg and 550 GL MG 1 at ₹711. On the terminal market, eight tonnes were traded at ₹695 a kg. Spot prices remained unchanged at ₹68,100 (ungarbled) and ₹71,100 (garbled) a quintal. November, December and January contracts were also steady at ₹71,000, ₹62,000 and ₹57,000 a quintal. Export prices were at $10,950 a tonne c&f for Europe and $11,200 for the US. Sri Lanka has reportedly raised its prices for 520-525 GL pepper to $9,700 from $9,500 a tonne. Meanwhile, Vietnam has brought down its prices to $6,480 for 500 GL and $6,875 for 550 GL. V Asta was being offered at $7,000 a tonne.
