The price of the turmeric was decreased on Friday. At the Weekend market on Friday the arrival of turmeric was increased slightly but, the prices of both varieties were decreased. Similarly the new turmeric price also showed a dip. This decrease is due to quality and also there was no major upcountry demand . The arrival of new turmeric is also remains low and the traders are expecting good arrival of new turmeric within a week’s time, said RKV Ravishankar a trader. Krishnamurthy a trader said on Friday 5,000 bags of turmeric was arrived for sale and 65 per cent of the arrived turmeric was sold and most of the traders have purchased for supply to the turmeric powder grinding units and also to Masala firms. All the 200 bags of new turmeric were sold and the buyers quoted decreased price for both varieties. The price of the new finger turmeric was decreased by ₹100 a quintal and the old finger turmeric was decreased by ₹150 to ₹200 a quintal and root variety by ₹150 a quintal. Only at Erode Cooperative marketing Society some bags of good quality root variety turmeric was arrived and sold for increased price.
