Fertiliser plants manufacturing urea and connected to the national gas grid will get domestic gas pooled with imported gas at a uniform delivered price from July 1.
Gas price pooling refers to the weighted average price of imported and domestic gas based on proportion of volume.
The move is expected to save the government ₹1,550 crore annually in subsidies while benefiting 30 urea plants. GAIL (India) Ltd will be the pool operator and will declare a uniform delivered price on the first of every month. It will also collect the data on the gas requirement of plants on a quarterly basis. The gas price pooling for urea plants will be carried out in two phases. In phase I, from 2015-16 till 2017-18, pooling for existing units along with those where gas grid connectivity is established. From 2018-19, the proposed brownfield expansion and greenfield units will also be included.
