A volume of 10.94 lakh kg has been catalogued for Sale No: 11 of Coonoor Tea Trade Association auction to be held on Thursday and Friday. It is 6,000 kg lower than last week’s offer.
Of this, 7.62 lakh kg belongs to leaf grades and 2.32 lakh kg, dust grade. As much as 10.03 lakh kg belongs to CTC variety and only 91,000 kg, orthodox variety. In the leaf counter, only 42,000 kg belongs to orthodox while 7.20 lakh kg, CTC. Among the dusts, only 49,000 kg belongs to orthodox, while 2.83 lakh kg CTC.
In the leaf market last week, among corporate buyers, Hindustan Unilever Ltd operated on good medium varieties. Tata Global Beverages Ltd was fairly active on good medium sorts. Duncan Tea Ltd showed some interest on good medium and medium brokens. Godfrey Phillips India was selective on medium brokens. In the Dust market, HUL showed interest on good medium smaller grades and orthodox dusts. Indcoserve was fairly active on medium smaller grades.
There were fewer enquiries from exporters for medium and plainer teas. Internal buyers were less active. There was fair demand for brighter liquoring teas from upcountry buyers.
