As the market will remain closed, the Coonoor Tea Trade Association’s weekly auctions scheduled for Thursday and Friday will be held on Wednesday this week.

For this auction, Sale No: 42, a volume of 17.08 lakh kg has been catalogued — as much as 2.54 lakh kg more than the volume offered for last week’s auctions.

Of this, 11.11 lakh kg belongs to leaf grades and 5.97 lakh kg, dust grades. As much as 16.02 lakh kg belongs to CTC variety and only 1.06 lakh kg, orthodox variety. In the leaf counter, only 63,000 kg belongs to orthodox, while 10.48 lakh kg, CTC. Among the dusts, only 43,000 kg belongs to orthodox, while 5.54 lakh kg, CTC.

Homedale Estate’s Red Dust tea, auctioned by Global Tea Brokers, topped the entire CTC auctions last week when Tea Services India P Ltd bought it for ₹253 a kg. Pekoe Dust grade of Homedale Estate, auctioned by Global Tea Brokers, followed at ₹240. In the CTC Leaf tea auctions, two grades of Homedale Estate, auctioned by Global Tea Brokers, topped each fetching ₹241 per kg.

On Wednesday, auctions will also be held in Kochi, Coimbatore and Teaserve auction centres.
