This week at Sale No. 20, the total offerings (packages) in three North Indian tea auction centres at Kolkata, Guwahati and Siliguri were 1,28,265 kg compared to 2,12,361 kg in the corresponding sale of the previous year, according to J Thomas & Company Pvt Ltd., the tea auctioneers.
The offerings at Kolkata comprised CTC/Dust 41,778 kg (68,098), Orthodox 4,769 kg(29,632) and Darjeeling 3,615 kg (3,236). The figures for Guwahati were 50,631 kg (76,421) and for Siliguri 27,472 kg (34,974). Selected liquoring Assam CTC sold at around last levels while the remainder tended irregularly lower. Bolder brokens met with better enquiry and appreciated. Dooars sold readily at firm to occasionally dearer rates. , North India and local sections.
Well made Orthodox offerings met with good demand and sold at firm to dearer rates. The remainder was irregular and sold in line with quality. There was selective Continental interest on tippy and liquoring varieties. West Asian and CIS shippers operated. Local buyers operated on the better fannings.
Darjeeling whole leaf grades were irregular and occasionally lower following selective enquiry from traditional exporters.
