Ahead of the meeting of the Goods and Services Tax Council on January 18, biscuit manufacturers on Tuesday sought lower tax on the food item, which they said is a product of mass consumption.
The Indian Biscuits Manufacturers’ Association has suggested lowering the GST rate on biscuits to 12 per cent, if not five per cent with full input tax credit. At present, biscuits attract a GST of 18 per cent.
