With nearly two weeks to go for the presentation of the first general budget of Modi 2.0, The ‘Halwa’ ceremony started on Saturday which marks the printing of budget documents, ahead of the budget that Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present on July 5.

Budget documents are now being printed at the printing press located in the basement of the North Block on Raisina Hill near the President House in Central Delhi.

To maintain the secrecy of Budget, there is a “lock-in” of the officials involved in making the Budget and now the priting press will be home for these officials and employees for next thirteen days.

These officers and staff will be able to get in touch with their near and dear ones, only after the Budget is presented by the Finance Minister in Parliament on July 5.

Even Secretaries or senior officials can enter or re-enter the press only on the basis of special security pass. Ministers too will have to follow strict protocol for entering or re-entering the premises.

At the Halwa Ceremony, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman was accompanied by her deputy Anurag Thakur, Finance Secretary SC Garg, Revenue Secretary AB Pandey, Revenue Secretary, Banking Secretary Rajiv Kumar DIPAM Secretary Atanu Chakraborty, among others.
