The problem of a coal supply mismatch is going to continue in the near term, according to Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Power and Renewable Energy, RK Singh.
There is an acute shortage of coal and this is very evident because the demand for power is growing. We have already written to States allowing them to import coal as per their requirements. Coal will continue to be a problem for 2-3 years till new mines are opened,” Singh said, during his opening remarks at the Conference of Power and Renewable Energy Ministers of States and UTs in Shimla.
Singh said that these mines will be opened as Coal India gets environment clearances for the same.
