Hiring activity has seen a year-on-year increase of 26 per cent in October led by recruitment in the IT-software and ITES industries, a survey by job portal Naukri said on Wednesday.

According to the Naukri Job Speak Index for October 2015, the annual increase for ITES industry moved from 27 per cent in the September 2015 index to 36 per cent in October. The annual increase in hiring activity in IT-software industry moved from 24 per cent in the September 2015 index to 34 per cent in October.

V. Suresh, Chief Sales Officer, Naukri.com, said, “The job market continues to sustain the momentum gained over the past few quarters. As predicted earlier this growth is driven by an overall growth in all sectors.”

The hiring activity in the FMCG sector has continued the recovery it witnessed in the September 2015 index and recorded an annual growth of 34 per cent in the October 2015 index, the survey said.

“Healthcare and the pharmaceutical industries recorded a 26 per cent and 21 per cent year-on-year increase in hiring activity respectively in October 2015. However, oil and gas sector continues to see a decline in hiring activity for a second month in a row,” it added.

City-wise, Delhi led the pack in hiring, followed by Mumbai and Pune which recorded an annual increase of 30 per cent and 23 per cent respectively in the October 2015 index.

To account for seasonality, the Naukri Job Speak Index for October 2015 has been calculated over an average of the index for October 2014 and November 2014. This is because in 2014, two major festivals were celebrated the October and hence growth in hiring was limited.
