They may be fond of putting decimal points, but when it comes to full stops, economists sometimes come across as a stingy lot. So, when the Planning Commission Deputy Chairman, Mr Montek Singh Ahluwalia, hogged all the seconds, minutes and hours of spotlight at the Annual General Meeting of the Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, there was some concern over the length of his answers. Sensing the discomfort, an unmoved and jovial Mr Ahluwalia was quick to add that he took care to match the length of his answers to the importance of the questions. More important the question, the lengthier would be his answer, he warned the questioners, leading to a roar of laughter in the audience.
