The India-US CEO forum, led by Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran and ATC CEO James Taiclet, has set up three new working groups in the areas of financial services, trade and investment, health and pharmaceuticals and defence and aerospace to formulate strategies for cooperation and growth.

“Both the India-US Commercial Dialogue meeting and the CEO forum participation involved very good interaction between the two sides,” said Commerce Secretary Anup Wadhawan at a press conference following the meetings.

The CEOs from both countries provided their recommendations relating to energy, water, environment, information and communication technology, emerging technologies, digital infrastructure, entrepreneurship and inclusive growth, promoting small business and infrastructure and manufacturing.

While US Secretary for Commerce Wilbur Ross had to cancel his visit to New Delhi for the meeting due to bad weather in the US, he participated in his bilateral meeting with Commerce & Industry Minister Suresh Prabhu and the India-US CEO forum through tele-conference.

Ross and Prabhu discussed various aspects of India-US trade and commerce relations, an official release said.

US Ambassador to India Kenneth Juster said Ross truly regretted not being able to participate in person in the meetings, but made all efforts to keep track of the proceedings. He also said the US Secretary for Commerce will re-schedule his visit as early as possible.

The sides assessing the progress made during the year 2018 by the Standards work stream, welcomed the developments on cooperation between the Indian National Physical Laboratory and the US National Institute of Standard and Technology. “The progress made by NPL in identifying sectors for reference material production was appreciated and it was hoped that the technical collaboration will enable NPL to commercialise the certified reference material development.

The mandate of the CEOs was to focus on ways to promote economic growth and generate jobs in both countries, said Juster.
