Harsh Bardhan Shringla, Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka, on Tuesday, said, India's supply of electricity to Bangladesh will double in June.
India currently supplies 660 MW electricity to Dhaka on a daily basis. Of the total, 500 MW is supplied through Bheramara border in Murshidabad in West Bengal and the rest from Tripura.
Beginning June, supplies through Bheramara border will increase to 1,000 MW. Efforts are on to open another 50 MW supply through North 24-Parganas district in Bengal.
Bangladesh has to purchase additional quantities from the market through short-term contacts.
Stressing on improved cooperation outlook, Shringla said 108 agreements were signed between the two countries in the last decade of which 60 agreements were inked in the last two years. This also includes the first-ever defence agreements.
India is offering training to thousands of judicial officers, teachers, police personnel from Bangladesh. Also, as many as 2,000 scholarships are offered to Bangladeshi students annually.
