The Dredging Corporation of India (DCI) is engaged in channel dredging work at Puducherry and several other ports in the country and abroad, according to a press release.
The DCI has also taken up dredging works in Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and Taiwan. The PSU corporation is carrying out dredging at Haldia, Kochi and Gogha. Recently, DCI has won a dredging contract at Bangladesh with a value of ₹102 crore.
In Puducherry, DCI is carrying out dredging works at the common entrance channel to the commercial and fishing harbours. A channel of approximately 600 metres long, 100 metres wide and 5 metres deep is being dredged, with a total of 3 lakh cubic metres of sand required to be dredged in a period of 120 days. A new inland cutter suction dredger, ID GANGA, has been deployed for the work.
