IndiGo is to start receiving delivery of 24 Airbus A-320 New Engine Option aircraft from March this year, the airline said on Monday.
"Airbus has confirmed that beginning with March 2016, it will deliver 24 fuel-efficient A-320neo aircraft compared to the original plan to deliver 26 A-320neos,” the airline said in a statement. Originally, the airline was to start getting delivery of the aircraft from late last year.
Aditya Ghosh, the airline’s President and Whole-time Director, added that the new A320neo powered by Pratt and Whitney’s fuel-efficient geared turbo fan engines will enable the airline to structurally reduce costs as fuel continues to be the single largest element of IndiGo’s cost structure.
"This also marks the beginning of the next phase of our growth and will enable us to make air transportation far more accessible for the people of India,” he pointed out.
