Thiruvananthapuram Division of Southern Railway earned Rs 854.67 crore in fiscal 2010-11 compared with Rs 836.80 crore for the corresponding previous year showing an increase of 2.13 per cent more than last year.
In the passenger front, the Division carried 98.1 million passengers for 2010-11 as against 95.9 million for the year 2009-10. Passenger earnings have shown an increase of Rs 38 crore compared with the previous year with total earnings at Rs 584.95 crore,a Railway release said here today.
The quantum of parcel traffic also increased and the parcel earning for the year 2010-11 was Rs 19.03 crore.
Intensive ticket checking duly involving RPF has resulted substantial growth in ticket checking earnings also reducing the number of cases of ticket-less travel. Cumulatively achieved earnings was Rs 393.15 lakh up to March 2011 compared with Rs 345 lakh in the corresponding period of last year, the release added.
