Indian passenger car manufacturers reported a healthy growth in their March sales on year-on-year (YoY) basis led by new launches in the market as well as the market recovering from the demonetisation.
Country’s largest passenger car manufacturer Maruti Suzuki India sold around 1.28 lakh units during the month compared with around 1.19 lakh units in March last year.
The compact segment (including Swift, Baleno, Ignis and Celerio) contributed the most at 60,699 units in March, up 30 per cent, against 46,786 units in the corresponding month last year.
“Nexa has brought in new customers by redefining the car purchase and ownership experience. We continue to see healthy orders for Brezza, Baleno and Ignis, and our effort is to improve their availability to minimise waiting time for customers,” RS Kalsi, Executive Director (Sales and Marketing), Maruti Suzuki India, said.
Similarly second largest company in the passenger cars segment, Hyundai Motor India recorded around 9 per cent growth to 44,757 units during the month, as against 41,201 units in March 2016.
Banking on its hatchback Tiago and SUV, Hexa, home-grown company Tata Motors recorded sales growth of 84 per cent to 15,433 in March as compared with 8,454 units in corresponding month last year.
“The sales for the month of March have been encouraging with a robust growth of 84 per cent owing to the continued demand for Tiago and Hexa. The launches of the Hexa, Tiago AMT and Tigor have set new benchmarks in their respective segments signifying Tata Motors as one of the fastest growing manufacturers in India,” Mayank Pareek, President, Passenger Vehicles Business Unit, Tata Motors, said.
Similarly, Japanese subsidiaries including Honda Cars India, Toyota Kirloskar Motor and Nissan India recorded positive growths during the month.
Ford India also recorded 15 per cent to 8,700 units during last month as against 7,560 units in March 2016.
In the two-wheelers segment, Royal Enfield sold 58,549 units in March, up 17 per cent as compared with 50,059 units same month previous year.
India Yamaha Motor recorded 27 per cent growth at 76,144 units during March versus 60,032 units in March 2016.
