Use of bilingual scripts in computers should be encouraged to increase the use of Hindi in official work. Mr Ajai Kumar, Chairman and Managing Director of Corporation Bank and Chairman of TOLIC (Town Official Language Implementation Committee) of Mangalore, expressed this view while addressing the 52nd committee meeting here on Monday.

Emphasising the need to activate the activities of Bilingual Technology Research Institute, which was set up under the auspices of TOLIC-Mangalore in 2007, he assured all possible support in this regard.

Mr Kumar called upon the member organisations to make all out efforts to achieve the targets fixed in the annual programme on official language implementation issued by the Department of Official Language, Government of India.

Mr Amar Lal Daultani, Executive Director of Corporation Bank, said the use of unicode fonts has helped in the widespread use of Hindi in government organisations.

Mr Ajay Kumar Srivastava, Deputy Director (Implementation), Regional Implementation Office, Union Ministry of Home Affairs, reviewed the quarterly progress reports on official language implementation submitted by the member organisations. He also guided them regarding various statutory provisions in respect of implementation of official language.

Mr Ajai Kumar gave away the trophies for best performing institutions in the field of official language implementation during 2011-12.

The institutions are: Corporation Bank (administrative offices category); Bank of Maharashtra (bank branches); MRPL (Central Government undertakings); Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (Central Government category); and Bankers' Institute for Rural Development (training institutions category).
