The Andhra Pradesh Government is examining a proposal to set up a corpus fund of about Rs 500 crore for SC and ST entrepreneurs, Minister for Major Industries J. Geeta Reddy said.

The proposal is based on a similar scheme launched by the Maharashtra State Government recently, she said, inaugurating a workshop on Affirmative Action and Supplier Diversity here today.

She said the State’s industrial policy had exclusive incentives and benefits for SC and ST entrepreneurs.

The workshop was hosted by the State unit of CII Andhra Pradesh, in association with Dalit Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The Minister said the State Government would also consider a proposal to reserve four per cent of the procurements for SC and ST entrepreneurs out of the 20 per cent reserved for the SME sector. This is based on a similar scheme launched by the Centre.

G Vivekanand, MP and CMD of Visaka Industries said there was a need for a backup plan to enable Dalit entrepreneurs to meet procurement needs.
