The Tamil Nadu Government on Saturday cleared six projects valued at Rs 8,996 crore, including a gas terminal to be jointly set up by Indian Oil Corporation and Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation (TIDCO).

The joint venture would be set up at an investment of Rs 4,320 crore.

Other projects include the Rs 2,262-crore SIPCOT (State Industries Promotion Corporation of Tamil Nadu) industrial Parks in Tirunelveli and Dindigul districts and Samsung India's Rs 350-crore capacity upgradation plans at their Sriperumbudur plant, an official press release said.

Another one is Madras Cements' expansion of factories at Ariyalur and setting up of a new cement grinding machine unit in Kancheepuram district at a cost of Rs 1,042 crore.

All projects were approved at a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, it said.

Through these projects about 6,000 people in the state would gain direct employment and another 11,000 indirectly, it said.
