The Opposition parties in Maharashtra are pressing for the resignation of the State government over the police firing and violence in Maval near Pune, which claimed three lives on Tuesday.
A delegation of political leaders, led by the Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly, Mr Eknath Khadse, will meet the Governor on Friday morning, seeking the dismissal of the government.
On Thursday, no major business was conducted in either house of the State Legislature as the Opposition members kept shouting slogans against the government demanding action against police officers who opened fire on the protestors with their service revolvers.
The Assembly was adjourned on five occasions, while the Council was adjourned four times as the Opposition members kept disrupting the proceedings. The members called the killing of the farmers cold-blooded murder. The victims were dragged and shot dead point blank, the members alleged.
The only business carried out at the Assembly in the morning hours was the condolence motion for Mr P.C. Alexander, former Governor of Maharashtra, who passed away on Wednesday.
As soon as the condolence motion was adopted, the Opposition members raised slogans the government. Both the Speaker, Mr Dilip Walse Patil, and the presiding officer, Mr Nawab Mallik, tried to in vain to pacify the members.
At a point, the bedlam was so intense that the Opposition members overturned a table belonging to the legislative secretary.
