Dr A. Subhananda Rao, Distinguished Scientist, DRDO, has taken over as the Chief Controller (Aero), Bangalore. As most of the [Defence] aero cluster labs are in Bangalore, Dr Rao will function at Bangalore to spearhead various technology development programmes of DRDO like the Light Combat Aircraft, UAVs, Kaveri [engine, avionics, the early warning system, etc.," a DRDO release said.
Dr Rao joined DRDO in 1975 and has contributed to the missile technology work at Advanced Systems Laboratory, Hyderabad; as Director, High Energy Materials Research Laboratory, Pune. Dr Rao succeeds Dr Prahlada, who has moved to Pune as Vice-Chancellor of the Defence Institute of Advanced Technology.
He also holds concurrent charge as Director, Gas Turbine Research Establishment since June this year. Dr Rao is a gold medallist in B.E [Mech. Engineering] from the National Institute of Technology, Warangal and figured in the Roll of Honour in M.E (Aeronautics) from the IISc, Bangalore, in 1975. He got his doctorate from Osmania University, Hyderabad, the release said.
