A tourism marketing board for Arunachal Pradesh is in the offing for which the department has sought Rs one crore from the Government, the State Tourism Minister, Mr Jarbom Gamlin, informed the Assembly today.

Responding to a question from the Congress MLA, Mr P.D. Sona, during Question Hour on the steps taken to market the high potential sector to woo tourists from outside, Mr Gamlin said all-out efforts were being made to achieve the goal.

He said a state-level meeting involving all the stakeholders including tour operators was conducted recently and 26 tour operators have been identified for professional training outside.

Responding to another question that many important projects for resorts, cafeterias and wayside amenities were incomplete in the state, the Minister said the consultative committee had discussed the matter and was taking steps to get central assistance for completing and strengthening the infrastructure along all 11 tourist circuits.

“Look at the growth of tourism in Tawang and Bomdila where locals with smiling faces welcome the guests. We should first determine the type of tourism we are looking at or else it will fail”, he said while advocating working out modalities for the implementation of public private partnership (PPP) model in the tourism sector.
