The new Minister of State for Planning Rajeev Shukla on Monday said that development in Naxal-affected areas would be his top priority to achieve inclusive growth in the 12th Plan period (2012-17).

Talking to reporters after assuming charge in Yojana Bhawan, he said, “Naxal-hit areas are our top priority. We need to focus on bringing people in these areas back to the mainstream at the earliest possible time. For achieving this, the 12th Plan will focus on improving inclusiveness of the development process.”

Shukla said the effort should be to strive hard to achieve over six per cent economic expansion to achieve inclusive growth.

He said, “the current economic situation is difficult and many steps have been taken. We need to create awareness about Government policies among the people.”

When asked about people’s perception about the Planning Commission as an arm-chair advisor, he said that his endeavour would be create greater co-ordination between the Commission and Ministries to ensure effective implementation of policies.

Shukla said inclusive growth meant that a larger base of people should benefit, not a small section of society.
