The ministry of Environment and Forests is being wrongly projected as the stumbling block for delays in major projects. On the contrary, the ministry has been clearing all projects within the mandated time frame of less than one year, according to Ms Jayanthi Natarajan, Union Minister of State for Environment and Forest (incharge).
“There is absolutely no time taken on clearing the projects. On review of the ministry it was found that 71 per cent of the projects in less than five hectares are cleared by the state Governments; 17 per cent by regional offices of the Ministry of Environment and Forest and that only 9 per cent of the projects that are over 100 hectares comes to the MoEF for clearance. “We clear the projects within the mandatory time, which is less than a year,” she told newspersons.
