The Ministry for Transport has signed a memorandum of understanding with Transport for London that would help improved customer services, scientific data analysis and implementing effective IT systems in the transport sector; increasing electric vehicles in public transport; promoting digital transaction for ticketing, among others.
Also part of the MoU are major procurement strategies including PPP models for operations; infrastructure maintenance strategies; infrastructure design and delivery; behavioural change and public transport promotion, said an official source.
Also understood to be part of the discussion is use of double-decker buses that occupy lower space, and a common mobility card.
TfL also has a system where several operators offer services under a single brand.
Reforms proposedThe move comes in the backdrop of the Motor Vehicle Amendments (MVA), which propose reforms in the transport sector.
The number of private vehicles on roads have increased by more than five times in last 15 years, while the fleet of the SRTUs has marginally increase of about 25 per cent.
