UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres and External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj discussed issues of mutual interest including climate change and United Nations Security Council reforms in a meeting on Wednesday.
“Working in close synergy with the highest organ of multilateralism. EAM Sushma Swaraj welcomed UNSG Antonio Guterres. Had productive discussions on issues related to climate change, UNSC reforms and other areas of mutual interest,” MEA spokesperson Raveesh Kumar tweeted on Wednesday.
Guterres is on a three-day official visit to India. He met the Prime Minister on Tuesday and participated in the Mahatma Gandhi International Sanitation Convention to mark the Mahatma’s 150th birth anniversary.
In his interaction with Modi and at a public lecture on Tuesday, Guetteres emphasised that India could play a key role in creating factors of equilibrium in the growing chaos in today’s world with countries not respecting international rules and engaging in trade wars and other conflicts.
