Eminent speakers and professionals from various organisations will address the two-day session on a variety of subjects ranging from education, healthcare, environment protection and media to microfinance.

INCLUSIVE GROWTH

Kerala should pursue its inclusive growth schemes that have been designed to ensure that all sections of society benefit from them, said Mr K.C. Shashidhar, Chief General Manager, National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Nabard), Kerala and Lakshadweep.

Society, by its own definition, implies coming together of a variety of peoples and sharing of benefits for survival and growth, Mr Shashidhar added. “We should pursue projects and schemes of inclusive growth so that the fruits of growth reach everyone.”

RADIO STATION

Citing Nabard initiatives for inclusive growth, he said that Mattoli, a community radio station (90.4FM) that reaches out to the entire district of Wayanad shares knowledge and awareness among farmers and tribals in natural resource management, sustainable crop production, skill development and preservation of ethnic language.

In a comprehensive effort to enhance productivity of dry land through conserving soil and rainwater and increasing irrigation, Nabard has initiated projects under Prime Minister's Relief Package for Mitigation of Distress of Farmers in the three distressed districts of Palakkad, Wayanad and Kasaragod.

The Chamravattom regulator-cum-bridge project across the Bharathappuzha in Malappuram district was a long-standing dream of particularly the local communities in Malabar region.

The 978-metre-long structure with 70 shutters will have a water storage capacity to irrigate an ayacut area of 4,344 hectares, in addition to reducing the road distance between Tirur and Ponnai by 20 km.

“Nabard has also been conducting gender sensitisation camps and workshops for various levels of bankers at the district-level. Grants have been sanctioned for setting up women development cells in cooperative banks in all districts.

CRUCIAL ELEMENTS

Citing the example of Gramadeepam' initiated by South Malabar Grameen Bank as a classic one for inclusive growth, Mr Shashidhar said that education through mass media and documentation of novel programmes and successful technologies were crucial for achieving inclusive growth.

Col R.G. Nair, Senior Vice-President, Mr G. L. Muraleedharan, Vice-president, Dr P. T. Nandakumar and Mr E. M. Najeeb, immediate past presidents, and other members of the managing committee were present during the interaction.
