Chinese phone brand OnePlus One's plans to launch in India on December 2 has been jeopardised after Micromax announced an exclusive deal with mobile operating system player Cyanogen.
OnePlus One had earlier announced that it will launch phones in India based on the Cyanogen platform but there is uncertainty with Micromax walking away with an exclusive arrangement.
“It was surprising and disappointing to hear from Cyanogen on November 26 that they had granted exclusive rights in India over the Cyanogen system to another company. Prior to this, OnePlus and Cyanogen have successfully cooperated to release the OnePlus One or carry out commercial operations in 17 countries and regions (including India). It is truly unfortunate that a commitment we both made to our Indian users will now not be upheld,” OnePlus One said in a blogpost.
“We can’t explain Cyanogen’s decision because we don’t fully understand it ourselves,” it added.
In a separate statement, Cyanogen said it has announced an exclusive partnership in India with Micromax’s new company YU Televenture.
“Cyanogen’s exclusive deal also means that Cyanogen OS will not support any other devices shipping in India with future updates including Lollipop. The first device from YU slated to be announced in December will also be the first to launch with Cyanogen’s new Themes app,” the company said.
