HMD Global today launched the Nokia 8, their flagship phone, in India. The global launch took place earlier in August in London this year.

The Nokia 8 smartphone has three ‘world firsts’ on board. Its ‘Dual Sight’ camera allows video to be livestreamed natively in real-time to social feeds such as Facebook and YouTube. The feature uses both front and back cameras in a split screen visual for both photos and videos.

Rather than just shoot selfies, the phone shoots ‘Bothies’. Pranav Shroff, Director Product and Portfolio, India also referenced HMD’s partnership with Zeiss for high-end optics for the Nokia 8’s cameras. The Nokia brand has a legacy of using Zeiss optics in its previous phones, particularly the 808 and Lumia 1020 with their 41 megapixel cameras.

The Nokia 8 also comes with OZO Audio which the company says uses Hollywood technology in the palm of one’s hand. OZO spatial 360° audio brings an immersive audio experience to 4K video. Recorded audio can sound immersive even when listen to on other devices, claims Shroff.

Nokia also sees its smartphone’s 7.3mm slim and seamless unibody milled from a single block of 6000 series aluminium and put through a 40-stage process of machining, anodising and polishing as being another first. Select models feature a high-gloss mirror finish that has taken over 20 hours to complete to achieve a its special look.

Powered by the Snapdragon 835 Mobile Platform, the Nokia 8 also uses Qualcomm® Quick Charge 3.0.

Ajey Mehta, Vice President - India, HMD Global, said: ”Millennials, today, are always exploring new ways to create and share content. It's these creative content creators who inspired us to craft a smartphone with them in mind. That's why we've worked to bring three world firsts – the debut collaboration with Zeiss, OZO spatial 360° Audio, and real-time live streaming using Dual-Sight mode."

Speaking on the launch, Larry Paulson, Vice-President & President, Qualcomm India, said: “ Nokia 8 is the first device from Nokia on the Snapdragon 800 Mobile Platform. With an advanced 10-nanometer design, the Snapdragon 835 Mobile Platform offers phenomenal mobileperformance on the Nokia 8, delivering an exceptional user experience.”

When HMD launched the current generation of Nokia phones, the company promised pure Android experiences which would also be secure and up to date. The company says it has delivered on this by pushing out updates regularly to launched devices.
